Being riverside is
one of my favorite places to be. So when Cashmere became our home in 2012 what made it easier to leave Seattle was knowing the Wenatchee River was only a block from our house. A quick walk and I could be riverside. With water rushing by and plenty of rocks down by the boat ramp for the kiddos to toss in the water.
Before moving and before kids, Jeremy and I would play on the Olympic Peninsula. Camping, hiking and flyfishing. I was good for about 5 hours of fishing and while J could go all day I’d find a boulder to read on or I’d take off inspecting the plants on the river banks. A favorite of mine was prevalent late June and early July, the foxglove, Digitalis purpurea. It is a beautiful but toxic plant. This plant recently played a role in Jeremy’s mom’s recovery from atrial fibrillation. Digoxin is extracted from the foxglove’s fuzzy leaf and turned into pharmaceutical medicine and has been in use for over 200 years. It isn’t used as often as it had been but it was the only thing that worked for her. This makes me grin as plants are magic.
Before coming to the Wenatchee Valley I was a Pharmacy Technician for 16 years. I worked the first half of my career at Briggs pharmacy (an independent pharmacy that unfortunately is no longer) and the later half at Swedish Medical Center First Hill in the outpatient retail pharmacy and anticoagulation clinic. As the kids got older and were in school an opportunity knocked to work for Kristen Acesta and Keely Murdoch at the Salt Creek Apothecary lab. I have worked there for the last four years. Keely trained me and now I just can’t imagine life without playing with plants and tincturing. The layered and supportive nature found in plants is refreshing and uplifting to me.
The products made in my certified home lab are about providing something beautiful and supportive to reach for in times of joy, stress, grief and to make everyday life that much more fun.
With care and support in mind,
Tanya
